Getting my first job in Siebel was a challenge. Several others might have faced a similar challenge in finding their first job. This is not only applicable to Siebel but is also applicable to several other fields.

People have asked me and even emailed me on how best to find their first Siebel job. They have also asked me on improving their skills while they are looking. Many websites like this have talked on how to present your resume and sell your skills which are great. But at the same time I have found those tips have very little influence while finding that first great Siebel job. So I like to be a little practical on this idea and give you some more important tips on the top of those generic tips you will find in other websites. So here are few tips on finding your First Siebel Job.

1. Be Mobile: Be willing to relocate. As this is your first job it will be much harder if you constrain yourself to one place.
2. Be Flexible: Be willing to negotiate. Having a job and finding another is much easier than finding when you don’t have one.
3. Target Consulting: 99% of the first Siebel jobs start with consulting firms like IBM, Accenture, Infosys, Wipro etc. Also there are several small consulting firms through which you can get a very good break. It is very hard to get full time jobs with direct client without any experience. So consulting is your best bet.
4. Network with Siebel Professionals: Lot of IT professionals are connected through LinkedIn. Join that and try to connect.
5. Be Patient: As the old saying goes Patience is a virtue. It is very true when it is concerned with your first Job.
6. Participate and Read a lot under Forums: It is unbelievable that how much knowledge I have gained by reading and trying to solve other people’s problems. Join the Siebel Forum under this website and also several other Siebel forums. See what problems people have and try to solve them. Actively participate in those forums. Brainstorm and try to give out solutions. This goes a long way.
7. Know the Siebel data model and its Entities. This will really help in Interviews. Under Siebel Data model know what the main DB tables are and what their respective entities are. For example: S_ORG_EXT is used for storing account information and belongs to Accounts Entity. Similarly the table S_CONTACT belongs to Contact Entity. This should be your basic foundation.
8. Try to implement —Practice, Practice, Practice
9. Practice Interview Questions. Take Siebel Quiz. Just don’t memorize, understand it.
10. Read Siebel blogs. Play Siebel and Talk Siebel.

Additionally place your resume in some top job search websites. Just don’t count on emailing your resume to your network and to recruiters. Recruiters’ first lookout for their billing cuts before it gets to you. Below are few great website that I have used for finding a job.
