Today I stepped my foot on Oracle Business Intelligence (Oracle BI) formerly known as Siebel Analytics. Though I have used Siebel Analytics before, I had no clue about how Oracle BI as to how it would look or how different it could be. Today I installed Oracle BI 10g all on my own without too much hassle and the results were impressive on how easy it is. So I decided to blog this for other people’s reference. Below is the simplified version of installation for Windows 2003 OS. If you are looking for some advanced architecture setup, you should refer to Oracle BI installation guide.
Prerequisites: Before installing Oracle BI following software have to be installed.
- Login into the machine with the username having admin access to the box.
- Install IIS
- Install Oracle Client for Oracle database connectivity
- Install Java SDK 5 or better
- Install latest JRE available
Actual Installation:
- Go to http://edelivery.oracle.com and download the Oracle BI Software
- Validate your access and select product pack as “Oracle Business Intelligence” for Windows 32 bit.
- Hit search and select Oracle BI 10.1.3
- Hit continue and will show list of pertinent softwares.
- Download the relevant archived files. I had to download three archived files for this installation “Oracle BI Suite EE 10.1.3.3.2”
- After downloaded extract all the archived files in one single folder.
- Under the extracted folder, navigate to Server section and click setup.exe
- This will launch the wizard to install
- Most of them are pretty straightforward except for below parameters
- Choose Microsoft IIS as Application Server
- Choose the directory where JDK was installed
- Choose the password for Administrator password for OC4J.
- For more specifics look at the Installation guide
- Reboot the machine
- Make sure Oracle BI Services have started
- Access Oracle BI using the following link. http://<machine-name>/analytics/saw.dll?Dashboard
- Login using the default username/password Administrator/Administrator
- You should see some charts and some numbers of the repository Paint.rpd
- Hey..Hey..You are done.
These steps are much simpler to follow compared to the actual installation guide. It took be at least half a day in reading and doing the setup. If this post has helped you, then leave me a comment and show some appreciation.
In the future I am planning the do a lot of things with this powerful Oracle BI tool. I would be building sophisticated reports to help the business. If you have any docs related to Oracle BI please send it to me. This will help me with my job and my future posts.
See you soon with my next post.

Thanks for the aid in installing! I did get that java.lang.noclassdefFound when I didn’t have the ZIP files extracted into the same location. But otherwise a very smooth installation. Thanks again!
